Film production in historical Central Asian city
Uzbekistan is making a significant move to become a global filmmaking hub, introducing a new financial incentive program designed to attract international film companies.
Approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 372 on July 8, 2026, this initiative offers a partial refund of production expenses incurred within the country. Foreign studios can now receive rebates ranging from 10% to 25% of approved costs, capped at 4 billion soums per film.
The process is streamlined: foreign companies apply through an electronic platform and must submit all expense documentation within 60 days post-filming. Applications undergo a review within 15 business days, with approved funds transferred within 5 business days, ensuring a swift and efficient system.
This strategic move aims to boost foreign investment and significantly develop Uzbekistan’s national film industry. By leveraging its rich historical sites and diverse natural landscapes, coupled with these new financial benefits, Uzbekistan positions itself as an increasingly attractive destination for international film productions, fostering economic growth and cultural exchange.
