Raaw Energy, a popular brand of frozen raw dog food, has temporarily halted all production and issued a recall for numerous products over concerns of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall Friday, warning of the potential risks to both pets and humans.
The recall impacts frozen dog food products manufactured between July 17, 2025, and December 23, 2025, along with a specific batch of “Beef and Turkey Medley” dated March 31, 2026. The company stated the recall was initiated out of an “abundance of caution” after Listeria was detected in several product samples.
Consumers have been strongly advised by the FDA not to use, sell, or consume any affected products and to discard them immediately to mitigate the risk of illness. Listeria can spread through contaminated pet food and surfaces that come into contact with it, such as pet bowls and kitchen utensils.
In humans, Listeria infections can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and muscle aches. Severe cases can lead to meningitis, pregnancy complications, or even death. The FDA also noted that pets exposed to contaminated food can become infected without displaying symptoms.
The recalled products, which were sold in 2-pound and 5-pound plastic tubes, were distributed through the company’s website and pickup locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The company’s recall includes a variety of items such as “Beef and Chicken,” “Beef and Turkey Medley,” and “Chicken Medley.”
Raaw Energy announced it has temporarily ceased all dog food production effective Thursday, May 21, 2026, as it addresses sanitation concerns. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As a small business, we are committed to doing the right thing and correct any issues,” the company stated. “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we focus on making these improvements and ensuring that our products meet the standards our customers expect and deserve.”
The FDA first announced the recall in January. A complete list of the recalled products can be found on the FDA’s website.
