Recalled MorningStar Farms products on pallets in a dimly lit warehouse
MorningStar Farms has initiated a voluntary recall for two of its plant-based products, Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets and Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties, sold across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. The recall, announced on June 18 and detailed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is due to the potential presence of plastic pieces within the affected food items.
Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should discard the items and contact MorningStar Farms for a full refund. The company has stated that no other MorningStar Farms products are involved in this recall.
The recalled Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets are identified by a 10.5-ounce package size with UPC code 00028989101105. The “Better if Used Before” dates for these items are July 7, 2027, and July 8, 2027. The affected Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties come in 8-ounce packages with UPC code 00028989100948, and their “Better if Used Before” dates are July 5, July 6, and July 7, 2027.
The Chicago-based company, a subsidiary of Kellogg’s, confirmed that the recall was prompted by the possible contamination with plastic. While the announcement did not specify if any injuries have been reported or detail how the contamination was discovered, the FDA notes that recalls involving foreign materials like plastic can pose choking hazards or injury risks.
A spokesperson for Mars, the parent company of MorningStar Farms, emphasized that consumer safety is the company’s top priority. For further information or to initiate a refund, consumers can contact MorningStar Farms Consumer Affairs at 800-962-0120 or via text at 877-453-5837, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET.
