Community block party for Happy Joe's America250 celebration.
Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream is transforming America’s 250th birthday into an extended summer celebration, featuring patriotic menu items, community block parties, and a “Freedom Flyaway Sweepstakes” that runs through August 15.
The restaurant chain, with locations in the U.S. and internationally, is leaning into the nation’s semiquincentennial with special promotions designed to engage families and communities.
Tom Sacco, Happy Joe’s CEO, president, and “chief happiness officer,” highlighted the brand’s alignment with the celebratory spirit. “Who’s better in this country to throw a birthday party for just regular old American folks than Happy Joe’s? Because that’s who we are,” Sacco stated.
From May 15 to August 15, customers purchasing a specialty pizza and a Mountain Dew at participating locations can enter the “Freedom Flyaway Sweepstakes.” The grand prize includes a chance to win one of three $3,000 trips to Washington, D.C. Alternatively, winners have the option to take the cash prize, offering flexibility for families.
“If celebrating to them is giving… them freedom financially to not be burdened by some of the expensive things that have happened in the last four or five years… If that’s what makes you happy, because mom doesn’t have to stress about how to pay for daycare during the summer or something like that, then that’s a huge win,” Sacco explained.
In addition to the main sweepstakes, the promotion includes weekly giveaways of Mountain Dew prize packs, featuring items like pickleball paddles, lawn chairs, blankets, Happy Joe’s apparel, and gift cards.
Happy Joe’s is also organizing AMERICA250 Block Party events on June 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. These events will include games, trivia, music, giveaways, and complimentary slices of their special red, white, and blue birthday cake pizza.
Select locations will enhance the block party experience with activities such as bounce houses, face painting, balloon artists, and patriotic trivia that touches upon both U.S. history and the history of Happy Joe’s.
The limited-time menu features new culinary creations, including a BBQ Brisket Pizza made with Texas-smoked brisket, pickles, and onions, as well as a BBQ Chicken Pizza. The AMERICA250 Birthday Cake, adorned with red, white, and blue frosting and sprinkles, offers a festive dessert option.
Sacco emphasized that Happy Joe’s focus remains on creating memorable experiences, particularly around birthdays and family gatherings. “We don’t compete on price. We don’t compete on discounting. We compete on experience,” he said. “Pizza gets you in the door. When you leave, we’ve created a memory. And that’s how we go about the business.”
The company views this nationwide celebration as an opportunity to connect with its customer base and share in a significant national milestone. “The 250, for me, is like the biggest national celebration I can ever be a part in,” Sacco remarked. “I have the opportunity, because of Happy Joe’s, to share it with hundreds of thousands of our guests and their families around the country.”
