Scottish Renewables has announced Angela Hepworth, a veteran energy executive, as its new Chief Executive. This leadership change comes at a pivotal moment for Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions, with Hepworth tasked with accelerating policy and investment to secure a sustainable, affordable future.
Hepworth succeeds Claire Mack, who will depart at the end of July 2026 after nine years leading the organization. Hepworth brings over two decades of experience from both civil service and prominent industry roles. Her background includes positions as corporate affairs director and commercial director at Drax, and policy & regulation director at EDF UK, where she was involved in the development of Sizewell C. She began her career at the Department for Trade & Industry, focusing on energy supply security and electricity market development.
Susie Lind, Chair of Scottish Renewables, emphasized that Hepworth’s extensive expertise will be crucial in advocating for members and implementing necessary policy changes to attract further investment and foster innovation within the sector. Hepworth expressed her enthusiasm for joining Scottish Renewables during this transformative period, acknowledging Scotland’s significant advancements in renewable energy and the ongoing efforts required to fully realize its potential.
Hepworth will commence her role on July 20 and officially assume the chief executive position on July 31. Claire Mack is transitioning to a new role at SSEN Transmission, marking a significant shift in leadership for Scotland’s renewable energy advocacy body.
