Legoland Shanghai staff and families celebrate 2 million visitors
Legoland Shanghai, China’s inaugural Legoland Resort, has marked its first anniversary with an impressive milestone: it’s now the fastest Legoland Resort globally to attract over 2 million visitors. This rapid success underscores a significant and growing demand within China’s family tourism sector.
The resort, located in Shanghai’s Jinshan District, not only celebrated its first anniversary but also achieved the highest first-year visitor growth worldwide. A remarkable 80 percent of its audience comprises families with children, indicating a strong resonance with its target demographic. Spanning 318,000 square meters, Legoland Shanghai was the largest Legoland park at its opening and stands as the 11th Legoland Resort globally.
Merlin Entertainments, the operator behind Legoland, views this achievement as a testament to the strategic potential of the Chinese market. John Jakobsen of Merlin Entertainments highlighted China’s robust family and cultural tourism market, signaling a fertile ground for entertainment ventures. The swift adoption by local families could pave the way for further investment and expansion in the region’s leisure industry.
General Manager Jeanette Chen expressed enthusiasm for the resort’s role in fostering creativity and strengthening family bonds through play. This rapid growth suggests that culturally tailored entertainment offerings, combined with a focus on family engagement, are key drivers for success in the competitive global tourism landscape, offering valuable insights for operators eyeing emerging markets.
