Migrants walk alongside border fence in arid landscape with bus, dust, and mountains.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has alleged that China is orchestrating a sophisticated, “travel agency”-style operation to funnel Chinese nationals across U.S. borders. Speaking on FOX Business’ “Mornings with Maria,” Noem detailed intelligence suggesting that Beijing-backed networks provide undocumented migrants with specific documents and transportation, including buses, to reach both the northern and southern U.S. borders.
“We saw very coordinated attacks of people coming into this country from China,” Noem stated. She cited reports from Latin and South American countries where Chinese operations allegedly facilitate entry into their nations, with migrants then proceeding to the U.S. southern border. “They would show up, be handed certain documents, a backpack, get on a bus and then bus straight up over our southern border,” she explained, noting the migrants were often young men.
This claim comes amid a significant increase in Chinese nationals encountered at the U.S. southern border. Reports indicate over 22,000 such encounters since late 2023. Additionally, U.S. intelligence and the DEA have previously stated that precursor chemicals for illicit fentanyl largely originate from Chinese factories before being processed by Mexican cartels.
Noem suggested a broader strategy by China, stating, “China has a thousand-year plan to destroy the United States. They have a plan to kill our country from the inside by killing off our next generation of Americans. They will use every tool that they have.”
Noem, who previously served as Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, has been a vocal critic of current border policies. Her tenure as governor has been marked by a focus on stricter immigration enforcement.
