Lauren Sánchez Bezos has emerged as a pivotal figure in the strategic allocation of Jeff Bezos’ $10 billion climate change fund, the Bezos Earth Fund. Since its inception in 2020, Sánchez Bezos has served as the vice chair, guiding the fund’s philanthropic efforts. The fund is committed to deploying its entire $10 billion by the end of the decade, and has so far distributed $2.4 billion across 335 grants.
Following her marriage to Jeff Bezos, Sánchez Bezos has taken a more public-facing role, frequently announcing new grants and initiatives. Notably, in September 2025, she announced a $37.5 million disbursement to protect over 835,000 square miles of ocean surrounding twelve Pacific nations, part of a larger $100 million commitment to ocean conservation. In October, she revealed $30 million in awards for 15 teams participating in the fund’s “AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge,” aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence to address environmental issues like biodiversity loss and food insecurity.
Beyond environmental initiatives, the couple has also directed significant funds towards social causes. The Bezos Day One Families Fund, a separate entity, has donated over $850 million to organizations combating homelessness and supporting early childhood education. This includes a $102.5 million commitment announced in December to homelessness-focused charities across the U.S. Additionally, the Bezos Courage & Civility Award, which includes a $5 million grant, was presented to David Flink, founder of the Neurodiversity Alliance, supporting students with learning disabilities.
While the Bezoses’ philanthropic endeavors are substantial, their total donations represent a smaller percentage of their net worth compared to other prominent billionaires like MacKenzie Scott. Scott has donated $26.4 billion over seven years, a significant portion of her net worth. Jeff Bezos has given away $4.6 billion to date, less than 2% of his net worth, and has not signed the Giving Pledge, an initiative encouraging billionaires to donate the majority of their wealth.
