Costco employee discusses recalled pizza bread return with customer.
Costco is recalling Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall stems from a milk powder ingredient used in the cheese sauce mixture that was supplied to a third-party manufacturer.
Costco sent notices to members who purchased the product between February 6 and May 29, advising them to return it to a local warehouse for a full refund. The recall affects both single-pack and two-pack versions of the frozen bread product.
The affected single-pack product has UPC code 8 70375 00511 1 and sell-by dates ranging from Feb. 4, 2027, through April 21, 2027. The two-pack product has UPC code 8 70375 00509 8 and includes sell-by dates of Feb. 3, 2027; Feb. 4, 2027; Feb. 24, 2027; Feb. 25, 2027; March 10, 2027; March 11, 2027; March 18, 2027; and March 25, 2027.
Champion Foods, the producer, initiated the voluntary recall after learning about the potential contamination. Routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer showed negative results for salmonella before the ingredient was used. The company issued the recall as a precaution.
Salmonella can cause serious infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe conditions.
No illnesses or injuries related to the recalled products have been reported.
