Elea Data Centers, in collaboration with AXIA Energia, is set to inaugurate the Amazon region’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) neutral data center, designated BEL1, in Belém, Pará state. The facility is slated to commence operations in the second quarter of 2027.
With an initial capacity of 7.5 MW, already secured by anchor clients, the data center has the potential for expansion to 100 MW. AXIA Energia will provide 100% renewable energy to the project through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), underscoring a strong commitment to sustainable digital infrastructure development.
Strategically situated near the Miramar high-voltage substation, the BEL1 facility will benefit from high energy reliability and operational efficiency. Its location in Belém is poised to offer a crucial, complementary, and resilient connectivity route to the existing Fortaleza hub. This integration is expected to enhance the Norte Conectado program and extend the reach of coastal fiber optic networks.
The initiative is designed to bolster Brazil’s digital infrastructure, address digital inequality, and foster economic growth within the Amazon region. This development is particularly timely as Belém prepares to host COP30, highlighting the intersection of technological advancement and environmental sustainability.
Alessandro Lombardi, CEO of Elea Data Centers, and Ítalo Freitas, Vice President at AXIA, both emphasized the project’s strategic significance and its pioneering role in establishing sustainable digital infrastructure in previously underserved remote areas.
