Marrakech Allocates $250,000 to Combat Pests
The Municipal Council of Marrakech, led by Minister Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, has earmarked 2.5 million Moroccan dirhams (approximately $250,000 USD) in its 2026 budget to address the ongoing issue of pests. This allocation specifically targets the control of rats, parasites, and insects that have been causing distress among the city’s residents.
Budget Breakdown
According to budget documents, a significant portion of the funds, 1 million dirhams, will be dedicated to the procurement of rat extermination materials. The remaining 1.5 million dirhams are designated for the purchase of insecticides and parasiticides. This financial commitment underscores the city’s determination to tackle the infestation problem head-on.
Previous Efforts and Persistent Challenges
In the previous year, the council allocated approximately 400,000 Moroccan dirhams for similar operations, of which roughly 300,000 dirhams were spent. Despite these efforts, the proliferation of rats and insects continues to be a source of suffering for the people of Marrakech. This persistent issue highlights the complexity of pest control and the need for sustained and effective strategies.
The Ongoing Battle
The allocation of this new budget reflects the city’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the pest problem. The council’s efforts, under the guidance of Minister Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, aim to improve public health and the overall quality of life for Marrakech residents. The effectiveness of the new measures and the impact on the community will be closely watched in the coming year.
