Israeli Airstrike Targets Hezbollah Maintenance Officer in Southern Lebanon
On Friday, the Israeli military announced it had targeted Ibrahim Muhammad Ruslan with an airstrike in the Konin area of the Bent Jbeil district in southern Lebanon. According to a statement by the Israeli army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, Ruslan held the position of a maintenance officer within Hezbollah and was reportedly involved in efforts to rebuild Hezbollah’s infrastructure.
Details of the Attack and Immediate Aftermath
The airstrike, which targeted a motorcycle in the town, resulted in casualties. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported one fatality and one injury. This incident is part of a series of escalations, including the dropping of incendiary bombs in the Al-Mahmoudiya area, a tank movement from the Al-Malikiya site towards Lebanese territory, and a drone strike on the Harouf public road, which resulted in four injuries. Furthermore, two bombs were dropped on a house in Shebaa, causing three injuries, and a large explosion occurred in the Al-Labbouneh area. A series of airstrikes also targeted the Al-Jarmaq and Al-Mahmoudiya areas, though no injuries were reported in these instances.
Additional Israeli Actions and Rising Tensions
Further heightening the situation, an Israeli force crossed the border into the center of the municipality in Blida, opening fire and killing municipality employee Ibrahim Salama. Additionally, an Israeli force reportedly booby-trapped the Husseiniya of the town of Adeisseh and an adjacent building, detonating them and cutting off the road.
Hezbollah’s Re-Armament and Potential for Renewed Conflict
Recent reports by The Wall Street Journal, citing Israeli and Arab intelligence sources, indicate that Hezbollah is re-arming itself. The information suggests that Hezbollah is replenishing its stock of missiles, anti-tank weapons, and artillery. Some of these weapons are reportedly arriving through Lebanese seaports and via smuggling routes through Syria, despite their weakened state. This re-armament increases the likelihood of a renewed conflict with Israel, despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in place for about a year but has been repeatedly violated by Israel.
