Hyundai Motor is recalling over 61,000 Palisade SUVs in the U.S. due to a power seat defect linked to a child’s death. The recall impacts 2026 model year Palisades and Palisade Hybrid vehicles with Limited and Calligraphy trim packages, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The issue involves the 2nd and 3rd row power seat assemblies, which may not respond as intended during activation of powered seat functions like the automatic power-folding function and the ‘one-touch’ tilt-and-slide feature of the 2nd row power seat. Hyundai is aware of a tragic incident involving a Palisade where a young child lost her life. The incident is still under investigation.
Reuters reported the victim was a 2-year-old girl from Ohio who died on March 7. Hyundai has paused sales of Palisades with the Limited and Calligraphy trim packages following the incident. The automaker has received four reports of minor injuries related to second-row seat operation.
A recall remedy is under development. Until then, Hyundai advises owners of affected vehicles to use caution when operating the second- and third-row power-folding seat functions and to avoid contacting the ‘one-touch’ tilt-and-slide button during entry and exit of the 3rd row.
