Hanwha Qcells, a key player in the renewable energy sector and the energy division of Hanwha Solutions, has been awarded a significant contract to spearhead the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for the Atlas Energy Park in Arizona. This ambitious undertaking positions the project to become one of the largest renewable energy complexes in the United States, covering an expansive 63.66 square kilometers (24.58 square miles). The park is designed to seamlessly integrate advanced solar power generation with robust battery energy storage systems (ESS).
By 2028, the Atlas Energy Park is projected to achieve a substantial 2.8 gigawatts of solar generation capacity, complemented by 5.7 gigawatt-hours of battery storage capacity. Hanwha Qcells will manage all EPC activities across the park’s 14 distinct projects and will also be the sole supplier of all necessary solar modules. The company’s established manufacturing footprint in the U.S., including its Solar Hub in Georgia, and its developed local ESS equipment supply chain, provide a distinct competitive advantage. This domestic production capability is particularly advantageous in light of U.S. policies that offer tax incentives and other benefits for projects that utilize domestically manufactured equipment. Since 2017, Hanwha Qcells has been actively engaged in the U.S. EPC market, successfully developing or completing renewable energy projects totaling 11 gigawatts of solar capacity and 6 gigawatt-hours of battery storage across North America.
