Al Dakhiliyah and Muscat players vie for the ball during the 3x3 basketball final in Oman.
The Directorate General of Education in Al Dakhiliyah has emerged as the champion of the School Sports League 3×3 basketball competition for the 2011–2012 age group. In a decisive final match held at the Middle East College sports hall, Al Dakhiliyah secured a 14–6 victory over their counterparts from Muscat. The bronze medal went to Dhofar, who triumphed over Al Batinah North with a close 3–2 scoreline.
The final event was graced by the presence of Eng Mustafa bin Abdullah al Balushi, Vice-President for Human Resources and Work Culture at OQ Group, who presided over the ceremony. Also in attendance were Hamad bin Ali al Sarhani, Adviser to the Minister of Education for Educational Administration Affairs, and Dr Saleh bin Hamad al Shaibi, Dean of Middle East College. The top three performing teams were duly honored at the conclusion of the tournament, celebrating their achievements in this significant sporting event.
Fahad al Mashaykhi, Deputy Chairman of the Oman School Sports Association, emphasized the importance of this event, noting that it signifies the return of team sports competitions to the school calendar after an interval of more than nine years. He highlighted the extensive participation observed this year, with representation from all governorates across the Sultanate. This edition of the league encompasses boys’ 3×3 basketball, as well as girls’ 3×3 basketball and volleyball, underscoring a broad commitment to student athletics.
Al Mashaykhi further elaborated on the strategic objectives of the Association, stating, “The Association aims to sustain and develop these competitions to build school national teams capable of competing regionally and internationally.” This forward-looking approach aims to leverage the current enthusiasm and participation to cultivate a strong pipeline of talent for future representative teams.
Mohammed al Kindi, Secretary of the School Sports Committee in Al Dakhiliyah, expressed his profound satisfaction with the team’s achievement. He attributed the hard-won title to the diligent efforts and commitment demonstrated by both the students and their dedicated physical education teachers. The collaborative spirit and focused training were key factors in their success.
Omar al Rashdi, a player from the victorious Al Dakhiliyah team, shared his pride in the accomplishment. He detailed the team’s rigorous preparation, which included intensive training sessions over two weeks leading up to the final. Al Rashdi also highlighted their tactical adaptability during the challenging final match against Muscat, emphasizing how strategic adjustments contributed to their victory.
The School Sports League continues its schedule with the girls’ 3×3 basketball competition, which has drawn the participation of 44 talented young athletes. Concurrently, girls’ volleyball matches are underway at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The overall league is expected to conclude in the near future, bringing a successful culmination to a season of spirited competition and athletic development across Omani schools.
