UAE University to Host 19th International Conference on ICT Applications
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) will be the venue for the 19th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Applications, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The event, known as AICT 2025, is scheduled to take place from October 29 to 31, 2025, and promises to be a pivotal gathering for experts and innovators in the field.
A Global Platform for Innovation
Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President, emphasized in his inaugural address that the conference serves as a global platform for exchanging ideas and knowledge. He highlighted its role in shaping the future of human progress. He also underscored the UAE’s commitment to transforming various sectors towards a sustainable, stable, and prosperous future through ambitious national strategies focusing on artificial intelligence, digital governance, and sustainable development. The university, through its researchers and students, aims to build a solid foundation for the future based on scientific and technological excellence, stemming from the values of social and environmental responsibility, which form the core of its academic and research journey.
AI and the Future of the UAE
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, discussed the UAE’s journey in developing the AI sector. He noted that the nation has advanced from an experimental phase to being among the top five countries globally in this field within eight years. This progress is a result of a comprehensive national strategy launched in 2017, which includes three main phases: building the system and infrastructure, adoption, and achieving global leadership, which is set to begin in 2026. The UAE’s vision for AI focuses on empowering humans and enhancing their productivity, rather than replacing them with technology. The goal is to improve the quality of life for all residents, enabling approximately 10 million people to achieve productivity comparable to major countries and transforming the UAE into an exporter of AI.
The conference’s opening sessions highlighted the pivotal role of AI in driving the paths of governmental and societal development. They emphasized the enhancement of institutions’ capabilities in anticipating and shaping the future. A key panel discussion, titled “AI and Empowering the Future of Governments: From Vision to Global Leadership,” explored mechanisms for accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies in government work and transforming national initiatives into influential global models. This aligns with the UAE’s strategic vision to foster innovation and creativity.
