Best Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers: Tested & Reviewed
Choosing an extra controller for your Nintendo Switch 2 can be a game of navigating options. While Nintendo’s own Switch 2 Pro Controller offers a complete package with a 3.5mm headphone jack and great rumble, it’s not the only option. Several third-party controllers provide a compelling mix of features and value. I’ve spent time testing a handful and found a few standouts that I think will satisfy most people, with a range of styles, prices, and features.
The Contenders
Every controller I’ve included is compatible with both the Switch 2 and the original Switch, and some can even remotely wake the Switch 2. They also feature better, longer-lasting joystick technology than Nintendo’s flagship controller.
EasySMX S10 Gaming Controller
The EasySMX S10 is nearly as capable and comfortable as the Switch 2 Pro Controller, yet it’s more affordable. It includes the best adaptation of Nintendo’s HD rumble that I’ve felt in a third-party controller. It’s also one of the few options that can remotely wake the Switch 2 from sleep mode via Bluetooth. Lastly, it includes amiibo support, a rare feature in third-party controllers.
- Pros: TMR joysticks, amiibo support, great rumble
- Cons: Clicky buttons can be divisive, grips might be too grating for some
- Where to Buy: Amazon, EasySMX, Walmart
GuliKit ES Pro
GuliKit’s ES Pro offers incredible value, especially considering it’s just $29.99. This gamepad features an eight-way D-pad that’s great for fighting games, Metroidvanias, and retro titles. It features tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) joysticks that are resistant to drifting and offer improved power efficiency. It can also remotely wake your Switch 2 or OG Switch console.
- Pros: Incredible value in terms of specs and comfort
- Cons: Lousy rumble, lacks a C button
- Where to Buy: Amazon
8BitDo Pro 3 Controller
8BitDo’s Pro 3 is a great alternative with a PlayStation-style stick layout. It offers a lot of customization. It has TMR joysticks, two back paddles, and three shoulder buttons per side thanks to new custom M buttons. Its analog stick caps can be swapped, and its ABXY buttons can be swapped as well. It also has trigger locks.
- Pros: Includes dock and 2.4GHz dongle, highly customizable, comfortable for small hands
- Cons: Bad rumble, can’t wake Switch 2
- Where to Buy: Amazon, 8BitDo
GameSir Super Nova
GameSir’s Super Nova is a passable Switch Pro copy. It’s comfortable, with rubbery grips and decent rumble, and it uses Hall effect joysticks. It has my least favorite D-pad and buttons to press out of all the controllers on our list. It includes a charging dock and a USB-A 2.4GHz transmitter that lets you easily connect the gamepad with your PC.
- Pros: Comfortable, sleek design, buttons are easy to swap
- Cons: Buttons don’t feel good to press, can’t wake Switch 2
- Where to Buy: Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy
Gulikit Elves 2
Gulikit Elves 2 is a compact, Sega Saturn-inspired controller. The gamepad shares some of the same benefits as the identically priced ES Pro — including Switch 2 wake-up and multiplatform support — but it’s smaller, which could make it a great pick for kids or small-handed folks. It comes with a rechargeable battery, rumble motors, a gyroscope, and an eight-way D-pad that feels nice to use.
- Pros: Cute, compact design, can wake Switch 2, Hall effect sticks
- Cons: Sticks and triggers have limited range, lacks features from the ES Pro
- Where to Buy: Amazon
What’s Next?
The hunt continues for gamepad contenders that pack in a bunch of features without breaking the bank. For instance, PowerA recently launched a Switch 2 controller called the Advantage Wireless Controller. It features Hall effect joysticks, but seemingly lacks rumble and the ability to wake the Switch 2. Hori also recently launched the Turbo Switch 2 in some nice colors, each with TMR joysticks.
