Al-Ansar’s Remarkable Comeback Secures Spot in AFC Challenge League
In a thrilling display of grit and determination, Lebanon’s Al-Ansar, the current champions of the Lebanese Premier League, have secured their place in the AFC Challenge League. They achieved this feat by overcoming a deficit to defeat Oman’s Al-Seeb with a score of 2-1 in Kuwait, during the third round of Group B matches.
Match Highlights
The match, held at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, saw Al-Seeb take an early lead. International player Abdulaziz Al-Muqbali put Al-Seeb ahead with a well-placed shot over Lebanese goalkeeper Nazih Asaad in the 16th minute, capitalizing on a pass from Arshad Al-Alawi. However, Al-Ansar responded with a stunning equalizer. Mohammed Haaboos, a Palestinian player, received the ball on the left side of the field, skillfully maneuvering past a defender before unleashing a powerful shot into the far corner of the net in the 66th minute.
Al-Ansar’s victory was further solidified when Samuel Koney, a substitute from Ghana, scored with a shot into the far corner in the 71st minute, taking advantage of a mistake by Al-Seeb defender Nasser Al-Rawahi. This goal ultimately sealed Al-Ansar’s qualification.
Other Notable Match
In another match, Al-Safa of Lebanon also secured a victory, defeating Tajikistan’s Regar-TadAZ with a score of 2-1 at the Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek, during the third and final round of Group C matches. Habib Chouikh (40′) and Tidian Camara (50′) scored for Al-Safa, while Ozodbek Banzhiev (9′) scored for Regar-TadAZ. Al-Safa earned its fourth point, but unfortunately, they were eliminated from the competition.
