India’s Space Program Soars with New Satellite Launch
In a major triumph for its space program, India successfully placed its heaviest communication satellite into Earth’s orbit on Sunday. This achievement, as announced by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), marks a significant step forward in India’s ambitious space exploration endeavors. A Successful Mission
The ISRO chairman, Mr. V. Narayanan, celebrated the accomplishment, stating that the satellite had been successfully placed in orbit. The CMS-03, weighing 4.4 tons, is designed to enhance communication services over the Indian Ocean and Indian territories. This launch utilized the LVM3-M5 rocket, a version of the same rocket that previously sent an Indian probe to the lunar surface in August 2023.

India’s space program has been steadily expanding its capabilities. This recent success follows the placement of a probe into Mars orbit in 2014 and the lunar mission in 2023. The nation, the most populous in the world, has set its sights on further advancements, with ISRO planning to send an astronaut into Earth’s orbit by 2027. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his goal of sending an Indian astronaut to the Moon by 2040. Prior to India’s achievements, only Russia, the United States, and China had successfully launched spacecraft and reached the lunar surface.
