Hussain Al-Hajj Hassan: Lebanon’s Commitment vs. Israeli Actions
In a recent address, MP Hussain Al-Hajj Hassan, representing the Baalbek-Hermel bloc, emphasized Lebanon’s unwavering commitment to the agreement signed on November 27, 2024. He contrasted this with the actions of the Israeli enemy, which, according to Hassan, has failed to adhere to any of the agreement’s terms. This includes failures in withdrawal, cessation of aggression, and the return of prisoners. The address, delivered during a memorial ceremony in Shaath, highlighted the ongoing challenges in the region.
The Unfulfilled Agreement
Hassan pointed out that the Israeli forces continue to undermine efforts towards reconstruction. He cited the attack on the town of Blida, along with daily assaults on border villages, as evidence. These actions, he argued, are aimed at preventing residents from returning to their homes and hindering reconstruction efforts. The core issue, as Hassan sees it, is the disparity between Lebanon’s commitment and Israel’s non-compliance with the agreement.
Criticism and Calls for Action
During his speech, Hassan questioned the rationale behind calls for a new agreement when the previous one remains unimplemented. He criticized those who, in his view, seek to weaken Lebanon, not just its resistance forces. Hassan also addressed the voices advocating for Hezbollah to remove its justifications and the need for an unbiased mediator. He referenced a recent statement from the Presidency of the Republic, and a statement by President Joseph Aoun to the Army Commander General Rudolph Hikel, which he described as potentially entangling Lebanon.
Hassan urged for the implementation of the November 27, 2024, agreement and called for pressure on Israel, the United States, France, and the United Nations to enforce it. He advocated for the development of a national security or defense strategy, strengthening the Lebanese army. Hassan acknowledged and valued the positions and statements issued by presidents, some ministers, and the army command.
A Call for Unity and Condemnation
In his concluding remarks, Hassan criticized certain political factions for their silence on the Israeli aggression. He highlighted the case of the martyr Ibrahim Salameh, a municipal employee who was killed in Blida. Hassan underscored that the lack of condemnation from some parties reveals their priorities and perspectives. The core message is a call for unity, adherence to the agreement, and a firm stance against the ongoing violations.
