Hezbollah Official: No Protectorate or Israeli Settlement in Lebanon
In a recent statement, Hassan Ezzedine, a Member of Parliament representing the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc (Hezbollah), emphasized the critical role of the resistance movement in Lebanon. Ezzedine stated that the resistance remains a national and existential necessity for the nation’s survival, particularly given the ongoing threats from Israel. He highlighted that Israel has not forgotten its past defeats and continues to pose an existential threat to Lebanon, with the potential to invade the country if given the opportunity.
American Pressure and Political Maneuvering
Ezzedine also addressed the political pressures exerted by the United States, describing them as attempts to achieve through political means what Israel has failed to achieve militarily. He criticized the U.S.’s efforts to dominate the region through negotiation and normalization, using terms like “technical,” “normal,” and “indirect” negotiations to mask their intentions. He asserted that these tactics are no longer deceptive and that Lebanon will remain a free, independent, and Arab nation. He further declared that Lebanon would never become an American protectorate or an Israeli settlement.
Call for Government Action
Ezzedine called on the Lebanese government to prioritize national interests, particularly addressing Israeli aggressions and focusing on reconstruction efforts. He criticized the government for neglecting these priorities, especially in light of recent Israeli attacks. He urged the government to convene an emergency session to consider all available options to deter the enemy and halt ongoing aggressions against Lebanon.
Military Response and Reconstruction
Ezzedine questioned why the government has not issued a political and national decision for the Lebanese army to take necessary measures to counter Israeli attacks and prevent further violations of Lebanese sovereignty. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of the reconstruction and compensation efforts that the government had previously declared as priorities, urging them to be reactivated and implemented.
