Egypt Celebrates Grand Museum Opening with a Month of Festivities
Under the banner “Egypt, Your Golden Sun Has Returned,” the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, led by Minister Ahmed Fouad Haggag, has announced a month of celebrations to mark the grand opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. This event is considered one of the largest of its kind on the global cultural map, symbolizing Egypt’s historical grandeur and the continuity of contemporary Egyptian creativity.
Minister Haggag emphasized that the museum’s opening represents a unique historical moment. It unites Egyptians around one of the most significant achievements of the modern era, acting as a bridge between a glorious past and a promising future. The museum embodies the enduring inspiration of Egyptian civilization throughout history.
A Month of Arts and Identity
The Ministry of Culture’s events will transform the country’s governorates into artistic arenas filled with pride and creativity. A highlight of the celebrations will be the live broadcast of the Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening ceremony on screens in theaters, opera houses, and cultural palaces across all governorates. This will be a national moment uniting Egyptians around their greatest civilizational achievement, as part of a series of cultural, artistic, and awareness events.
The campaign includes several key areas: highlighting ancient Egyptian civilization and its impact on contemporary generations, reviving intangible Egyptian heritage in partnership with educational institutions, showcasing the influence of Egyptian civilization on global cultures and arts, and promoting the Ministry of Culture’s art and historical museums while encouraging public visits.
Opera and Theater Performances
The Cairo Opera House, under the direction of Enas Abdel-Salam, is organizing a special celebration for children titled “A Journey to Ancient Egypt.” This will include storytelling workshops based on the stories of writer Ewan Zuhair (Princess of the Nile, The Lost Scepter, A King from Egypt, Isis and Osiris), followed by a theatrical performance that blends arts and history.
The Cairo Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Mohamed Sharara and featuring violinist Nour Mohamed Abdel Fattah, will present a concert titled “Symphonies of Eternity.” Additionally, the General Authority for Cultural Palaces will release a special issue of the magazine “Qatar Al-Nada” for children about the Grand Egyptian Museum, narrating the secrets of kings, treasures, and excavation adventures in a simplified style. The authority will also present the play “Narmer” by the Menoufia National Troupe on November 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. at the Al-Samer Theater in Agouza.
A Gift from Egypt to the World
The General Authority for Cultural Palaces has also issued the book “The Grand Egyptian Museum: Egypt’s Gift to the World,” authored by Dr. Al-Shaimaa Mohamed Eid, as part of the “Story of Egypt” series. The book provides a simplified scientific presentation of ancient Egyptian civilization through this unique edifice, which represents the story of a nation rediscovering its roots to build its future. It also explores how the museum has become a platform for cultural interaction and a bridge connecting the past and present, highlighting its role in achieving sustainable development.
The Supreme Council of Culture, led by Ashraf Al-Azazi, will organize an artistic celebration featuring the children’s operetta “Isis and Osiris,” written by the great poet Shawky Hejab, in a performance that combines myth with the values of goodness and light that characterize ancient Egyptian civilization. The Theater Sector, headed by artist Hisham Attwa, will organize a series of events through the Confrontation and Touring Theater in Tanta, Damanhur, and Mahalla, including storytelling sessions for children about the history and civilization of Egypt and the distribution of the Ministry’s publications on ancient Egypt.
The Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening is poised to be a landmark event, celebrating Egypt’s rich cultural heritage. The Ministry of Culture’s comprehensive program promises a vibrant month of art, history, and cultural appreciation for all.
