Windows 11 Remote Desktop Arrives on Quest 3: A Vision Pro-Like Experience
Microsoft has officially launched its Windows 11 remote desktop feature for Meta’s Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, bringing a taste of the future to virtual reality users. Immersive Ultrawide Mode and Enhanced Features
The new feature allows users to transform their virtual desktop into an ultrawide display that curves around their field of view, much like what is offered on Apple’s Vision Pro. This capability was first previewed in December 2024. Meta has been rolling out the feature more broadly over the past few weeks with the Horizon OS v81 update. To get started, users need to download Mixed Reality Link on their Windows computer. Once installed, Quest 3 and 3S wearers can pair their headset with their desktop display. They can then either immerse themselves completely in their virtual desktop or utilize passthrough to maintain awareness of their surroundings.
Additional Enhancements and Capabilities
Beyond the remote desktop feature, Meta is also introducing the ability to rescale and resize displays across all apps. A Full Passthrough feature is also included, allowing users to quickly check their environment by double-tapping the side of their headset or clicking the action button on the Meta Quest 3S. Users can now open up to 12 apps at once, further enhancing the multitasking capabilities of the VR environment.
