Ceasefire in Place, But Israel Continues Lebanon Strikes
A two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran went into effect today after intense negotiations led by President Trump. The agreement hinges on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global oil traffic. Pro-Iran factions in Iraq have also reportedly ceased attacks.
However, the situation remains tense. While Israel has supported the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, the IDF is continuing military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. This has led to significant casualties and displacement, raising concerns about the ceasefire’s overall stability and scope.
Prior to the ceasefire, both the U.S. and Israel conducted strikes inside Iran, targeting leadership, nuclear facilities, and missile infrastructure. Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Israel.
