OpenAI Unveils New Features for Sora Video Generator
OpenAI’s Sora app is expanding its capabilities with the addition of several new features designed to enhance the AI-generated video experience. These updates, which include reusable ‘character cameos’ and video stitching, aim to provide users with more creative control and flexibility in their video creation process. The improvements were announced just days after celebrity video platform Cameo filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against OpenAI over the use of “cameo” in Sora app features.
Introducing Reusable ‘Character Cameos’
One of the most notable additions to Sora is the ‘character cameo’ feature. This allows users to transform almost anything into a reusable AI video character. As OpenAI explains, these characters can be used in the AI-generated videos. This builds upon the existing feature that allows users to create AI deepfakes of themselves.
Once created, each character comes with its own set of permissions. Users can choose to keep characters private, share them with mutual followers, or make them available to everyone on Sora. Each character is assigned a display name and handle, enabling users to tag them in videos.
Video Stitching and Enhanced User Engagement
In addition to character cameos, Sora is introducing video stitching capabilities. This feature allows users to connect multiple videos to create longer, multi-scene clips, broadening the scope of what can be achieved within the platform. Furthermore, Sora is rolling out leaderboards that showcase the most popular and remixed videos, as well as the most-used cameos.
Accessibility and Availability
To encourage wider adoption and experimentation with these new features, OpenAI has temporarily made Sora more accessible. Users in the US, Canada, Japan, and Korea can now sign up without an invitation code for a limited time.
These updates mark a significant step forward for Sora, offering users more creative tools and opportunities to engage with AI-generated video. With features like reusable characters and video stitching, OpenAI is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the realm of AI video generation.
