UAE Sports Medicine Conference Spotlights Women’s Sports Advancement and Empowerment
The UAE Sports Medicine Conference, organized by the Emirates Society of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dubai (MBRU), showcased the significant progress of women’s sports and the nation’s commitment to the field. The event underscored the UAE’s prominent position in sports medicine.
Focus on Women’s Sports
The opening session, dedicated to women and sports, featured presentations by Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice President of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, and Aisha Abu Al Zoud, Head of the Physiotherapy Department at the Foundation. They highlighted the remarkable advancements in women’s sports within the UAE, including the increasing number of women’s clubs and female athletes participating in local and international competitions. Furthermore, they emphasized ongoing efforts to empower women in sports.
The presentation received widespread acclaim from attendees. The session included global experts such as Professor Babette Pluim from the Netherlands, Professor Wayne Derman from South Africa, Dr. Kate Jordan from the UAE, Dr. Mariana Kaiseler from Britain, and Dr. Margot Mountjoy from Canada.
Diverse Discussions and Practical Demonstrations
The second day of the conference featured four sessions that addressed various topics in sports medicine and rehabilitation medicine. These sessions included experts and specialists from both the UAE and abroad. Dr. Abdullah Al Rahoumi, President of the Emirates Society of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, emphasized the importance of involving specialized experts in women’s sports, sports medicine, and rehabilitation medicine. The goal was to highlight the sector’s significant developments in the UAE and showcase national and resident expertise in supporting athletes to reach peak performance levels.
As part of the conference, a practical test was conducted during the accompanying exhibition to demonstrate the use of modern devices in performance enhancement. Khalifa Al Kaabi, a UAE national team fencer, and a member of the Mubadala Sports Excellence Program, participated in a hands-on experience using devices that utilize artificial intelligence in sports medicine.
AI and Technology in Sports
Al Kaabi noted that the availability of advanced devices for sports federations in the UAE is a crucial step towards supporting training and rehabilitation plans. He explained that nearly 99% of sports could benefit from these modern technologies, including tennis, badminton, boxing, and football. Adopting these advanced solutions enhances the opportunities for Emirati athletes to achieve successes at both regional and international levels.
The conference’s emphasis on technological advancements and expert discussions reflects the UAE’s commitment to advancing sports medicine and supporting athletes at all levels, fostering a future of continued growth and achievement in the sports arena.
