Baarini: Open Doors to Direct Negotiation, a Mercy for the People of the South and Lebanon
In a series of meetings and receptions in Akkar, MP Walid Baarini, a member of the National Moderation Bloc, emphasized the critical and dangerous stage Lebanon is facing. He stated that the old methods of confrontation are no longer effective, and this is said for the sake of history, love for Lebanon, and its preservation. According to a report from Annahar, Baarini highlighted the reality of the situation and the need for a new approach.
Recognizing the Reality
Baarini acknowledged the stance towards Israel, viewing it as an enemy to the people and the nation. However, he recognized that the capabilities of the Lebanese army are not sufficient for a confrontation. He warned that involving the youth in a battle would be suicidal, not a confrontation. Baarini also pointed out that armed action for confrontation no longer yields results, especially after some have involved it in external projects and agendas unrelated to Lebanon.
The Path to Negotiation
Given this reality, Baarini called for an end to the destruction and the waste of blood, advocating for courageous negotiations. He questioned why direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are not pursued, as such negotiations occur between warring countries. Baarini urged: “Learn from the Palestinians and Arabs and open the doors to direct negotiation, as a mercy for the people of the South and Lebanon.”
