iPhone Battery Draining Fast? 3 Settings to Tweak Now
We rely on our iPhones for everything, from checking emails to navigating with maps. But a dying battery before the day is done? That’s a frustrating experience. While batteries degrade over time, there’s a better approach than constantly relying on low power mode. Fortunately, your iPhone has a few settings that, when adjusted, can significantly extend your battery life.
According to a report by CNET, disabling these settings can give you extra hours of use. Instead of watching your battery percentage plummet at the worst moments, you can make some simple changes to help your iPhone battery last longer. Before considering a new phone, check the Battery Health section in your settings (anything above 80% is considered good), then disable the following three settings that consume a lot of energy. It’s the easiest way to make your iPhone battery last longer—starting now.
1. Disable Widgets on the Lock Screen
Widgets on the Lock Screen keep your apps running in the background to fetch data and update the information displayed, such as game scores or the weather. Because of this continuous operation, they drain the battery constantly. To help conserve battery power in iOS 18, it’s best to avoid widgets on the Lock Screen (and also on the Home Screen). The easiest way is to switch to a Lock Screen that doesn’t have widgets.
Here’s how:
- Press and hold on the current Lock Screen.
- Swipe to switch between screens and choose one without widgets.
If you prefer to remove widgets from the current Lock Screen:
- Press and hold on the Lock Screen.
- Choose Customize.
- Then Lock Screen.
- Press the widgets box, then the – sign to remove them one by one.
2. Reduce Motion in the Interface
iOS features beautiful movements and animations, such as the smooth transition when opening apps or the flowing colors when Siri is activated via Apple Intelligence. These effects make the experience enjoyable, but they may affect battery life. For simpler movements and reduced power consumption, you can enable the Reduce Motion option:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion.
- Enable Reduce Motion.
3. Disable Keyboard Haptic Feedback
Since iOS 16, Apple has added the keyboard haptic feedback feature, which gives you a tactile sensation with every key press, in addition to the usual sounds. However, Apple indicates on its support page that this feature may affect the iPhone’s battery life, without clarifying the extent of the impact.
The feature is not enabled by default, but if you have enabled it manually, you can turn it off via the following steps:
- Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback.
- Turn off the Haptic option.
By making these adjustments, you can significantly improve your iPhone’s battery performance. These simple changes can make a noticeable difference in how long your phone lasts throughout the day. Take control of your battery life and enjoy a more efficient iPhone experience.
