Goethe-Institut Celebrates 70 Years of Cultural Exchange in Lebanon
The Goethe-Institut recently commemorated its 70th anniversary in Lebanon with a special celebration. The event, held on Friday evening at the Rebirth Beirut center in Gemmayzeh, brought together artists, cultural figures, and partners of the institute. This gathering underscored the enduring commitment of the Goethe-Institut to fostering creativity and cultural exchange within Lebanon.
A Celebration of Culture and Resilience
The choice of Rebirth Beirut as the venue for the celebration was significant. The center embodies the Goethe-Institut’s mission of promoting creativity and cultural exchange, reflecting the spirit of resilience and hope that the Rebirth Beirut association has carried since its establishment. According to a statement released by the institute, the event showcased the power of culture to unite people, even in challenging circumstances.
Kabi Firnini, the founder and president of Rebirth Beirut, emphasized that the center has always been a platform for dialogue and renewal through art. The Goethe-Institut’s celebration at this location further highlighted the crucial role of culture in bringing people together, regardless of the difficulties they face.
Artistic Performances and Cultural Support
The evening featured a performance titled “Silence in Plastic” by artist Bahaa Al-Souqi and a visual musical performance called “A Separation from Habit” by artist Joey Moughanni. Both artists have benefited from the AL-MU7AFFIZ cultural grant, which the Goethe-Institut supports to encourage artists and creative initiatives in Lebanon. This initiative is a testament to the institute’s ongoing dedication to the Lebanese art scene.
Commitment to the Future
Through this celebration, the Goethe-Institut renewed its commitment to continue supporting creativity and cultural exchange between Lebanon and Germany. Rebirth Beirut, in turn, reaffirmed its position as a symbol of hope and cultural renaissance in the heart of Beirut. The event was a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of cultural institutions and the importance of supporting the arts, especially in times of adversity. The Goethe-Institut’s continued presence in Lebanon serves as a beacon, promoting dialogue and understanding through the universal language of art and culture.
